From Moroccan Arabic:
لي ماعدو قلام ولا ضوية ما عوّل على القرية

phonetics:
li ma andoo qalam ula dwya ma aowal ala al quraya.

translation:
He who does not have pen and ink does not intend to study.


This is one I learned from a Moroccan Arabic tutor in 2002, and which I likely spelled wrong in the Arabic version. The gist is pretty obvious, if you don't come prepared for your lesson or class, you really have no intention of learning.

From French:
De l'eau a coulé sous les ponts.

Translation:
Water has run under the bridges.

Time has flown by, basically. This proverb came up to my mind as I was posting a little presentation and remembered when I first arrived in the US..

Ce n'est pas aux vieux singes que l'on apprend à faire des grimaces.

translation
You can't teach an old monkey to make faces.

It is similar to the English expression "You can't teach an old dog new tricks."

I am not sure about the rest, but you used "t" intead of an "n" in andoo.  I have heard that phrase here in Tunisia as well.  It was told to our class when I forgot my notebook!
